GOLD IN THE GREEN
On the 2nd of May to the 2nd of June 2019 the Golden Thread Project collaborated with Wow and Flutter Gallery in Hastings to celebrate May-Day and the local ‘Jack in the Green’ festival with an exhibition of carved and printed pieces, and two special events on the 2nd and 4th of May. There were performances from FELL, Ted Versicolor, a surprise appearance from the wonderful and semi mythic Sexton Ming and the Golden Thread Projects own Mr ZEEL spinning the crazy wheels of wicker with folk and ethnic sounds from around the world and across the ages. Art objects included prints and wooden effigies by Aidan and ZEEL of iconic characters from folklore and the living traditions associated with May Day and the animating forces of nature. So as we enjoyed the music we were observed by the inanimate eyes of Jack-o-the-green, Bran the Blessed, bogies, bunters, magic owls, horned pigs, skulls with dogs ears, morris dancers, Cecil Sharp and Maude Karpeles.
